There are hundreds, if not thousands, of macOS shortcuts and methods to streamline your procedures and make working with your Mac easier, yet many of these shortcuts go unrecorded.
The main advantage of operating a Mac is that you don’t have to install numerous third-party applications as you would with Windows devices. Because everything functions as it should in macOS, you won’t need to use third-party software to combine several PDFs, sign papers, or do basic photo editing. There’s plenty to discover in macOS.
Sign up for Apple’s beta program:
The first tip is to make sure you sign up for Apple’s beta program. I know it sounds scary, but stay with me. You’ll get new features and important bug fixes as soon as they’re available. You may even win a prize! (Remember the free iLife ’09? Yeah.)
You need to have a Google account to access the program. Search for ‘Apple Beta Program’ in your browser and sign up there.
Be updated always:
The second tip is to make sure you install all available updates on your Mac. You can check for them by going to the Apple menu > App Store, or by clicking “Check for Updates” in the App Store app under the application menu. Patience, grasshopper. The updates will be downloaded in the background and installed when your Mac is shut down.
Back up your files:
The third tip is to back up your files regularly! You can use Time Machine, or just copy every important file into Dropbox (or whichever cloud storage service you prefer).
If you don’t want to pay for the extra space, just enable the “Save deleted files to iCloud” option in Time Machine preferences.
Using Keyboard shortcuts:
There are lots of keyboard shortcuts available in macOS. Be sure to visit this list of useful shortcuts.
Here’s one example: Command+Delete, Command+Shift+Period. The first command shows you the files you deleted over the past hour; the second displays all folders where you’re not currently saved. Like you may need to use a screenshot.
To take a screenshot of your whole screen, just hit Command+Shift+3. The screenshot will be saved on the desktop. You can also use mac screenshot software like Cloudapp.
Software updates:
The last tip is to keep your software updated. This way, you’ll have all the latest features and security updates for your apps. To update an app, go to Apple menu > App Store, then click on Updates tab in the top panel.
You can also update all apps at once, by clicking the “Update All” button in the lower-left corner of the screen.
That’s it! I hope you find these tips useful. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below.
